La semaine dernière, nous vous révélions l’empreinte carbone d’ELOQUENTIA LANGUAGE SERVICES (entre 1,5 et 2,5 tonnes de CO₂e par an). Aujourd’hui, nous sommes passés à l’acte pour aller plus loin que la simple réduction de notre empreinte, en en absorbant une partie.
🌿 Notre forêt est née. En partenariat avec Treedom, nous venons de planter 20 arbres, capables d’absorber 5,53 tonnes de CO₂ au fil de leur croissance — soit plus de deux fois notre empreinte annuelle.
Et parce qu’un arbre ne pousse pas seul, les nôtres prennent racine là où ils font le plus de bien :

Last week, we shared the carbon footprint of ELOQUENTIA LANGUAGE SERVICES (between 1.5 and 2.5 tonnes of CO₂e per year). Today, were walking the talk.
🌿 Our forest is born. In partnership with Treedom, weve just planted 20 trees, set to absorb 5.53 tonnes of CO₂ as they grow — thats more than twice our annual footprint.
And because a tree doesnt grow alone, ours are taking root where they matter most:

Nous venons d’estimer l’empreinte carbone annuelle de notre activité : entre 1,5 et 2,5 tonnes de CO₂e par an. 📉 Là où ce chiffre compte et en dit beaucoup : la moyenne d’une entreprise unipersonnelle du tertiaire en France se situe entre 3 et 6 tCO₂e/an.
Notre sobriété s’explique par des choix simples mais assumés :
🚆 Le train et les transports en commun plutôt que la voiture
💻 Un parc informatique raisonné et utilisé longtemps
🥗 Une alimentation végétarienne majoritairement bas-carbone
🏠 Pas de locaux dédiés, un impact bureautique réduit au strict nécessaire

🌱 La suite ? Nous avons déjà commencé à réduire notre empreinte à la source…mais réduire ne suffit pas. Nous travaillons actuellement sur un plan d’action concret pour joindre l’acte à la parole, avec des engagements précis et des partenaires choisis avec soin.

We have just estimated the annual carbon footprint of our business: between 1.5 and 2.5 tonnes of CO₂e per year. 📉 Where this figure matters and speaks volumes: the average for a one-person service sector business in France is between 3 and 6 tCO₂e per year.
🚆 Trains and public transport over cars (thank you, low-carbon French rail!)
💻 A lean, long-lasting IT setup — most of a device’s footprint comes from manufacturing
🥗 A mostly vegetarian, low-carbon diet
🏠 No dedicated office space, keeping our facilities impact minimal

🌱 What’s next? We’ve already started reducing our footprint at source… but simply reducing it isn’t enough. We’re currently working on a concrete action plan to put our words into action, with specific commitments and carefully chosen partners.

Tips for a Successful Online Conference with Simultaneous Interpretation
Organizing an online conference with simultaneous interpretation requires careful preparation to ensure smooth communication and a high-quality experience for all participants. Here are some key recommendations:
1. Stable Internet Connection: Always use a wired Ethernet connection instead of Wi-Fi to avoid interruptions. Run a speed test beforehand to ensure your connection is strong and stable.
2. Quality Audio Equipment: Speakers should use a headset with a microphone to prevent echo and background noise, improving sound clarity for attendees while making the interpreters’ job easier.
3. Optimal Lighting & Video: Avoid sitting backlit or in front of a window, as this can make you hard to see. Keep your video on and ensure your face is well-lit for better engagement.
4. Quiet Environment: Choose a calm, noise-free room to minimize distractions and ensure clear audio transmission.
5. One Speaker at a Time: Allow only one person to speak at a time to avoid overlapping voices, which can be challenging for interpreters and confusing for listeners.
6. Share Materials in Advance: Provide interpreters with presentations, notes, or PowerPoint slides ahead of time. This helps them prepare and deliver accurate, high-quality interpretation.
And don’t forget to inform Participants About Interpretation by prepare a slide or brief introduction explaining that the meeting will be interpreted and how attendees can access the interpretation (e.g., via a specific channel, language selection button, or link).

Artificial intelligence or ‘AI’ is rapidly changing the world as we know it, especially in the translation services industry.
In our line of work, interpreters are frequently asked whether they feel threatened by AI. This is a fascinating discussion to be having.
In our opinion, there are 2 main reasons why AI might need a few more years before replacing human interpreters:
– “Situational awareness”: understanding the context, the cultural relevance, what’s at stake, what’s implied by non-verbal communication; ensuring that the tone is right, that the message gets across, no matter the nuances and the variety of accents spoken…are you positive AI can do this at this stage?
– Confidentiality: trained to handle sensitive information, human interpreters uphold rigorous ethical standards, are you absolutely confident that your data is as secure when using a foreign AI?
